Safe Sport

We All Can Make Sport Safe.

What is Safe Sport?

Safe Sport means creating a sport environment where everyone, especially youth, feels safe, respected, and supported.

It includes preventing and addressing all forms of maltreatment, such as abuse, bullying, harassment, discrimination, and neglect.

Safe Sport also means having clear rules for behaviour, education for participants, and a fair process to report and respond to concerns.

Creating a Safe Sport environment is everyone's responsibility.

Whether you're an athlete, organization, parent, guardian, spectator, coach, or volunteer, it's up to you to make sport a safer place for all.

The Protecting Youth in Sports Act

The Protecting Youth in Sports Act is a Manitoba law that helps keep young athletes safe.

It requires sport organizations to:

  • Have a Safe Sport Policy in place
  • Set clear expectations for behaviour
  • Provide a way to report concerns or complaints
  • Ensure concerns are handled fairly and appropriately
  • Offer education and training to help prevent harm

The Act makes Safe Sport a legal responsibility for sport organizations and strengthens protection for young participants.
