We are hiring one (1) Sport for Social Development Program Leader!
Wage:
$38,000 - $40,000
Position Description:
Under the direction of the SSD Supervisor, the Program Leader will assist in community programming for Indigenous communities in Manitoba. The goal of the SSD Program is to increase employability, increase education, improve health, and lower at-risk behaviour through the vehicle of sport and recreation. The Program Leader will work Tuesday to Saturday based out of Winnipeg, but monthly travel throughout the province is required. Days off will be Sunday and Monday.
The Program Leader will be able to facilitate and mentor in multiple sports, leadership activities, and traditional games. They will travel to communities within Manitoba at minimum 2-3 times per month, for both day and overnight trips. The Program Leader will mentor community members to run programs on their own and will continue assisting in the development of new programs for the community. They will also be responsible for monthly reporting.
The Program Leader must be available to assist as needed for all major events and games, including but not limited to the MASRC Annual General Meeting, North American Indigenous Games (NAIG), and the Manitoba Indigenous Games (MIG).
Requirements:
- Must be willing and able to travel (by car, boat and/or plane) to rural and/or remote communities within Manitoba.
- Must have strong verbal and written communications skills.
- Must be proficient with office technology, specifically MS Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel) and Google applications.
- Must be willing and able to collaborate with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities, Provincial Sports Organizations (PSOs), community groups, and other partners.
- Must have a grade 12 diploma or GED.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 full Manitoba driver's license.
- Must have proven experience working alone or with a team.
Desirable Qualifications:
- A degree or diploma in recreation management, education, sport, or a related field is preferred. Alternatively, 3-5 years of equivalent volunteer or work experience will be considered.
- First-hand and/or in-depth knowledge and understanding of First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities in Manitoba.
- Knowledge of the Manitoba amateur sport system, including coaching and officiating, is an asset.
- Experience in project coordination and relationship management considered an asset.
- Experience developing and implementing recreation programs, community planning, sports programs, or related experience.
- Have excellent time management skills, the ability to function independently and as part of a teams.
Successful Applicants:
- Will start as soon as possible, and will be based out of our satellite office on Higgins Ave, Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00AM - 4:30PM. Saturday programs will run out of Central Community Centre. Please note that some weekends and evenings will be required.
- A current Criminal Record Check and Manitoba Child Abuse Registry Check are required upon selection.
