Sport Leadership: Purpose, Goals and Objectives

Purpose

The purpose of the Sport Leadership Program is for the skill enhancement of Manitoba’s Aboriginal athletes, coaches and officials.

Goals and Objectives

Goal #1:

To certify 200 new Aboriginal coaches in the first year in any sport while advancing existing certified and interested Aboriginal coaches through the developmental and high performance levels.

Objectives:

  • Promote the goals and objectives of the Sport Leadership Program
     
  • Communicate with existing communities interested in hosting a clinic for their members
     
  • Work in collaboration with Coaching Manitoba, Provincial Sport Organizations, and other agencies to coordinate the delivery of the coaching clinics
     
  • Pool resources from the NAIG Legacy Plan, Canada/Manitoba Bilateral Sport Development Program, Manitoba Indigenous Games and Team Manitoba (NAIG) to assist with registration fees and offset logistical expenses
     
  • Record the necessary information from the participants for tracking purposes and input into MASRC databases

To certify 100 new Aboriginal officials in any sport while advancing certified officials through regional, provincial, national and international levels.

Objectives:

  • Promote the goals and objectives of the Sport Leadership Program throughout Manitoba
     
  • Communicate with interested individuals, teams, organizations and communities who wish to attend or host an official’s clinic
     
  • Work in collaboration with the Provincial Sport Organizations and other agencies to coordinate the delivery of the official’s clinics
     
  • Pool resources from the NAIG Legacy Plan, Canada/Manitoba Bilateral Sport Development Program, Manitoba Indigenous Games and Team Manitoba (NAIG) to assist with registration fees and offset logistical expenses
     
  • Record the necessary information from the participants for tracking purposes and input into MASRC databases
