Manitoba Indigenous Games: Code of Ethics
The Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games CODE OF ETHICS was developed to provide basic understanding of minimum standards required in order to promote fair play, and healthy lifestyles, attitudes and behavior.
This code is intended for all athletes, coaches, managers, chaperones, parents, Tribal Councils, and First Nations, Metis, and Host communities. It will consist of the following:
- Give thanks to the Creator each morning upon rising and each evening before sleeping.
- Be truthful at all times.
- Always treat your guests with honor and consideration. Give your best food and comforts to your guests.
- The hurt of one is the hurt of all. The honor of one is the honor of all.
- Listen to and follow the guidelines given to your heart. Expect guidance to come in many forms: prayer, dreams, solitude, and other words and actions of Elders and Friends.
- Respect the Rules and Regulations established by the Manitoba Indigenous Summer Games.
- Conduct themselves at all times with honor and dignity.
- Show that it is a privilege to represent their communities.
- Carry out all roles and responsibilities to the best of their abilities.
- Be fair at all times no matter what the cost.
- Believe in honesty and integrity of opponents and officials.
- Accept peacefully without question the decision of the official.
- Promote good sportsmanship and fair play.
- Ensure athletes have a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
- Be free of drugs and alcohol leading up to and during the games.
- Accept both victory and defeat with pride and compassion and not with bitterness or arrogant attitudes.
- Play hard and to the limit of their abilities regardless of discouragement.
- True participants do not give up nor do they quarrel, cheat, bet or show off.
- Recognize and applaud honesty.
- Participants that violate the Code will be subject of disciplinary procedures. The type of discipline will depend on the level of severity of the act. The final action will be taken to the MASRC Board of Directors made up of representatives from each region in Manitoba.
