Awards

In recent years, the MASRC has participated through the awards program offered by the Aboriginal Sport Circle, Canada’s National voice for Aboriginal sport. The program recognizes the skills and abilities of Canada’s top male and female athletes and coaches in each of the Provinces and Territories in Canada.

Each Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Body (P/T ASB) is responsible for the identification of deserving male and female Aboriginal athletes and coaches in their respective province/territory. The MASRC is provided brochures and information packages for distribution throughout the province and invites nominations based on established criteria. Award winners are selected through the Award/Scholarship Selection Committee consisting of Board of Directors and General Members of the MASRC at predetermined dates.

Manitoba’s Tom Longboat Award winners are recognized at the Annual Awards Ceremony held by Sport Manitoba each year in April.

Manitoba’s Aboriginal Coaching Award winners are recognized at the Annual Excellence Awards Brunch held in April of each year hosted by Coaching Manitoba.

At these events, in front of their peers, family and friends, they officially receive the medals honoring their achievements.

The provincial/territorial award winners automatically advance for nomination and the opportunity of receiving the National Tom Longboat and National Aboriginal Coaching Awards held by the Aboriginal Sport Circle. Manitoba leads other P/T ASB’s in National recognition having won four national coach awards.
